The Royal British Legion

Paris Branch

Event: Anniversary Dinner Dance May 2011

Held to commemorate the forming of the very first branch of the British Legion .

On 19th May, we organised a Dinner Dance at the Ecole Militaire, to celebrate our 90th Anniversary and that of the Royal British Legion Worldwide.

We had a great 20 piece Band called MC Big Band.  They played Glenn Millar style music which was appreciated by most of the 165 persons present: one or two said it was too loud!

We were greeted by six Garde Republicaine Soldiers and had an aperitif on the lawn.  We were called to dinner by our Toastmaster, John Cooper, a new member to our ranks, who, offered his services for the evening.

We had as our Guest of Honour, Marina Pettigrew, Consul General of the British Embassy, Col. Wronski from the Garde Republicaine, Gyles Longley, CBE, MC, and invited guests of these persons together with our Chairman who made his speech in French which, was appreciated by the French guests.

The dancing was great and a young lady was given a present by Joan Hicks on our behalf, her name Paulette Levalleur, who was also celebrating her 90th Birthday; I am sure she will not mind me telling you all how old she is.  As she says, she feels about 20!!

We hope you all had a great time, we have received some lovely e-mails and telephone calls to congratulate us on a splendid evening.
